@home is a feature-length documentary that looks at homelessness in America through the lens of e-activist Mark Horvath.
Mark has experienced the highs and lows of the American dream, from a successful career in television to barely surviving, homeless and addicted, on Hollywood Boulevard. But he found his voice again when he hit the streets, armed with a digital camera and a smartphone, to talk to homeless people about their own experiences. Today, he's the online voice of his cause, and he's bringing their stories to millions on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. The @home documentary follows him on a road trip across the country, from Los Angeles to Arkansas to Pittsburgh, as he makes homelessness in America visible.
@home is directed and edited by Susanne Suffredin and produced by Danny Alpert. A Kindling Group/See3 Communications co-production.
Overview
@home is a documentary film with the powerful message that everyone has a story worth hearing. In fact, one story could change everything you know about homelessness. Building off the narrative of the film — which highlights the power of storytelling and digital media for good — @home’s engagement campaign includes three main components: social media trainings, community screenings, and broadcasts nationwide. The goal of our outreach campaign is to make this film widely available as a powerful tool to raise awareness of homelessness, dispel misconceptions and de-stigmatize people who are or have been homeless.
Impact
The producers have conducted social media bootcamps in Los Angeles and now in Chicago. These intensive three-month programs are designed to help homeless service organizations advance their work in the networked age through training, coaching, and project-based learning
@home has screened in communities around the country — in film festivals, parks and libraries, and with nonprofit and service organizations, faith-based groups and community development organizations. A rough cut of the film was featured at the National Conference on Ending Homelessness in 2013, and screened at the National Healthcare for the Homeless conference, the Housing First Conference, the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions conference, and the Seattle "Hack to End Homelessness" in 2014.
