INTERNSHIPS 

Overview

Kindling Group offers a competitive internship program to aspiring and active professionals passionate about a career in digital media storytelling. Each semester Kindling Group interns build foundational knowledge and skills through a variety of organizational, production, and engagement projects. Each cohort manages and advances an intern-run social media campaign focused on helping young professionals break into their industry. From this experience interns will gain a firm understanding of their career goals and a strong network of industry leaders. 

Our internship program is geared toward those just beginning their professional careers in the world of documentary film production, journalism, communications, or related fields. As an intern, you will be quickly immersed in our team, gaining first-hand exposure to the inner-workings of a leading nonprofit documentary film company.

Throughout the program interns participate in professional development lunches with staff members and professionals in the social issue focused multi-media content communities and receive opportunities for feedback on their own independent work, and often have the opportunity to work with our partner producers. Each term is a unique experience and tailored to the films currently under construction.

Post-production Intern 

Responsibilities:

Updating post-production process best practices documents, processing footage (creating proxies, transcoding, etc.), syncing audio, maintaining folder structure and file naming conventions, logging footage, being point person for Assistant and Lead Editor for Kindling Group projects.

Requirements:

Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and Media Encoder; 1-2 years post-production experience; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable multi-tasking in deadline-driven environment on a daily basis; ability to work both independently and as a member of team; adaptable to fast paced work environment with quick turn around time for projects. 

Research/Archival Intern

Responsibilities:

Identifies, evaluates, and recommends tools and resources for research best practices; conducting research relevant to Kindling Group projects; maintaining research databases; organize archival footage on server and cloud; pitch story ideas and work on assigned stories developed by writing team; tracking current events; email and phone inquiries/correspondences.

Requirements:

Competency in applicable programs required for archival/research practice such as Microsoft Office and Google Drive; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable multi-tasking in deadline-driven environment on a daily basis; ability to work both independently and as a member of team; adaptable to fast paced work environment with quick turn around time for projects. 

Production Intern

Responsibilities:

Organizing gear cage; updating inventory database; tracking condition of gear; ordering replacement parts/new equipment; processing gear rental requests; performing gear testing; performing PA and Grip work on KG related projects.   

Requirements:

General understanding of production gear functionality and troubleshooting; 1-2 years production experience; capable of troubleshooting mechanical and technical issues; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable multi-tasking in deadline-driven environment on a daily basis; ability to work both independently and as a member of team; adaptable to fast paced work environment with quick turn around time for projects.

Animation/Graphics Intern

Responsibilities:

Prepare concepts, designs, and layouts for motion graphic projects; Edit raw video and incorporate elements such as animations, special effects, and 3D objects; Participate in brainstorming session to share new design perspectives and ideas; Ensure compliance with company guidelines, deadlines and design standards; Work with account and creative teams to understand project scope and objectives.

Requirements:

Proficiency with After Effects, Premiere and rest of Adobe Creative Suite; exellent graphic design and typography skills; ability to work in fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable multi-tasking in deadline-driven environment on a daily basis; ability to work both independently and as a member of team; adaptable to fast paced work environment with quick turn around time for projects. 

Digital Campaign Intern

Responsibilities:

Responsible for various digital marketing and writing activities; conducting and managing projects under the supervision of the Multimedia Content Producer; supporting implementation of Kindling Group campaign specific social media marketing, digital engagement, and impact writing content.

Requirements:

Highly motivated individual with experience and a passion for designing and implementing content strategy, creating relevant content, blogging, community participation; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable multi-tasking in deadline-driven environment on a daily basis; ability to work both independently and as a member of team; adaptable to fast paced work environment with quick turn around time for projects.
