In the spring of 2013, a group of Chicago documentary filmmakers came together to begin following the wrenching closure of 47 public elementary schools in Chicago — and what the changes in our own city's school system mean for the future of public education in our country.

It's a hugely important story for our families and our community. So we're thrilled to announce that the MacArthur Foundation has generally contributed $125,000 to helping making this project possible.

It sure has been a busy month here at KG. We’ve got quite a lot in store for our new film, @home. Not only have we locked picture, but the film is all mixed and color corrected. It’s been quite a long haul, but we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Like many journalism students with no plans for the summer, in January I sent out applications to every local magazine, newspaper, and radio station I could find that offered internships, hoping to gain some valuable experience and keep myself busy during those few months between semesters. I hadn’t heard from any hirers come March, so I took to job searching again and came across Kindling Group.

We are proud to announce that our latest project, Sister, has been selected as one of seven films participating in the first-ever Good Pitch Chicago.

Produced and directed by Rebecca Parrish, the film explores the 21st century Catholic Church through the lens of three energetic nuns whose values put them at odds with the hardline hierarchy of this centuries old institution.

We've just launched an ambitious fundraising drive for the @home campaign, a documentary and smartphone game exploring homelessness in America.

@home combines documentary film, social media, and a smartphone "game for social change" to convey one simple idea: that we can solve homelessness, and each one of us is part of the solution.
